Xinjiang, officially the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, is a vast and geographically diverse region in Northwest China, bordering several countries including Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. Historically a crucial part of the Silk Road, it’s a land of dramatic contrasts, boasting towering mountain ranges like the Tian Shan, vast deserts such as the Taklamakan, and fertile oases.
