The Messolonghi lagoon complex is located in the central-west coast of Greece covering 150 sq.km. One of the most important wetlands in the Mediterranean. The open and closed type lagoons communicate with the sea receiving fresh water from drainage pump systems, creating a unique aquaculture environment rich in salt marsh. The minerals create unique formations & natural abstractions only evident from aerial top-down point of view. Colours and terrain change over the phases of the harvest, giving new shapes with each visit and fusing the boundaries between topographic and pictorial iconography.

Pygmalion Karatzas studied Architecture at the Technical University of Budapest, Urban Design at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, and practiced architecture for 12 years. Since 2013 he is focusing systematically on architectural and fine art photography, producing a portfolio of 200 architectural, commercial and artistic projects from Europe, USA and Middle East.
