Over two days in October the annual Golden Eagle festival is held in the desolate Altai Mountains in Western Mongolia. Around 100 traditional eagle hunters gather from around Bayan Ulgii province to participate in this event with their specially trained golden eagles. The festival celebrates both the honoured golden eagle and Kazakh heritage, where the nomadic hunters and their birds of prey compete in various competitions. Other Kazakh traditional games such as Kyz Kuar, a race between man and woman on horseback, entertain the local crowd.
