Following the introduction of a new tax reform that would raise taxes in Colombia, the country began a nationwide protest known as the Paro Nacional, or National Strike. Protestors were met with heavy resistance from Colombia's riot police, and during the course of the protests human rights groups reported that over 75 people were killed, and thousands more were injured from the use of lethal and less lethal munitions - which can still be deadly. The tax reform was withdrawn but protests continued over the issues of police brutality and the government's response to peaceful protestors.
