In northern Mozambique, there are these clandestine mining mines of Grenada a semi-precious stone, where men, women and children every day without safe and sanitary conditions dig with shovels and pickaxes to find the stones. While, on a part of the planet, people proudly display rings and necklaces with precious stones; in another, human beings in degrading conditions dig into the depths to find them.

Luís Godinho was born in Angra do Heroísmo, Azores, in 1983. He holds a degree in Environmental Engineering and Management from University of Azores but also has a wide experience as a photographer, especially in photojournalism and documentary photography. As a winner and finalist of many international prizes, Luís also published some of his works in international photography editions.
