The Project was inspired by the iconic photograph of Pham Thi Kim Phuc at nine years old, fleeing, naked, from a napalm attack in Vietnam, 1972. Other inspirations are Louise Bourgois' dark and interesting art and Edvard Munch's famous painting - the Scream. The work expresses modern angst and a feeling of horror at events, such as war, which cause suffering beyond the individual's control. It consists of a photograph I took of Nobby's Beach in Newcastle, NSW, a couple of hours from Sydney. A disturbing, head shot, taken in the studio, was placed on top. Both are rendered in black and white.
