Love of Yeosu is a short story written by Korean Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang in her early twenties. It tells the story of Jeong-seon and Ja-heun, two individuals who left the city of Yeosu and settled elsewhere. Both carry painful memories from their childhood in Yeosu—Jeong-seon was scarred by her father’s abuse, while Ja-heun was abandoned by her parents. One day, Ja-heun, who had been living with Jeong-seon as her roommate, suddenly leaves for Yeosu. Jeong-seon boards a train to Yeosu in search of her. Everyone lives with their own scars. And everyone has their own personal “Yeosu.”
