An elderly soldier sheltering from the rain, pictured at a local ceremony on ANZAC Day, 2021. I had originally obtained his permission to make a portrait from side on, shooting through the passenger window of the car. A little later, when I realised a better opportunity had presented itself from front on, I asked, by pointing at the camera, if I could take another shot, and received a friendly nod. Just as I lifted the camera to my eye the young boy appeared, admiring the vehicle, and I jumped at chance to include a candid element in the portrait.
