I had climbed Hachibuseyama to photograph the cluster of Rhododendron japonicum (known as Rengetsutsuji in Japan), but before I knew it, sunset was approaching. As the clouds thickened, I started hurrying my descent. However, what stopped me was the sudden, unexpected drama of light appearing in the sky I had given up on. The light streaming through the break in the clouds illuminated the town below and caused the foreground plants to glow. This magnificent climax, delivered by nature and distinct from my original photographic purpose, was the true subject that captured my heart.
