In early 2025 I translated my fears about threats to human rights into a symbolist series of composite images. I placed clay figures (my own and those of various artists) in dark and surrealistic environments. The subjects appear both human and vaguely alien but all share a striking sense of psychic nakedness and vulnerability. I use the dichotomy of two mediums (clay and photography) to stress the tension between our fragility and our desire for meaning. Clay is earth and an ancient metaphor for human mortality. Photography is light and symbolic of inner vision. We are earth + light.
