This photo essay captures the impact of urban renewal in my hometown. While sleek buildings rise, longtime residents are forced to leave under a redevelopment plan that allows majority rule to displace the few. Using harsh flash to photograph half-demolished homes, I highlight the violence of this erasure—of shadow, of detail, of life. This is my farewell to a vanishing community.
