I have been at the Venice Carnevale every year for 11 years now. This year's photo project is done at a grey wall of a small alley at the Venice Carnevale and using natural lighting only. The wall takes on a color hue reflected onto it from the costumer's dressings. The project aims to showcase a more intimate and realistic side of the costumes. The photo project is an exploration of contrasts-vivid light and quiet darkness. The Venice Carnevale is not solely about masks. Local Italians and foreign costumers now prefer historical costumes or painted faces. This is the real Venice Carnevale.
Robin Yong is a multi-award winning Travel Photographer. He enjoys traveling to exotic destinations to befriend and photograph the locals. He is best known for his work on the Omo Valley tribes in Ethiopia, the Venetian Masked models in Venice, the Bokator boxers of Cambodia and the Maikos of Kyoto. He calls these works his Travel Portraits, his Art of Travel Medicine. For most of his works, he does not use flash, reflectors or artificial lighting, depending solely on natural lighting alone. The photos are often dramatic, colourful and extremely beautiful.
