“Caw and Calf” was shot on the Tongan winter of 2024 during the month of august, when the hump back whales search for safe waters in between the Tongan Islands of Vavau where they breed and grow their babies strong until time to head back to face dangerous crossings towards the Antartic. This interaction was especially beautiful since it was the Cow “mother whale” who showed a particular interest on us floating respectfully, and the calf “baby whale” was curious and learned from the mom. Humpback Whales face feeding challenges since we overfish the Krill they desperately depend on.
