In the rugged expanse of the Utah desert, the rare desert kit fox (Vulpes macrotis) presents a captivating portrait of survival and behavior through the lens of a dedicated photographer. Despite their resilience, these foxes are facing severe threats: invasive grasses are stripping away essential cover and prey, overgrazing by livestock is exacerbating habitat degradation, and the looming threat of energy development adds further strain. The photographer’s commitment, demonstrated by three nights of camping in the remote Simpson Springs without the use of bait, captures the essence of them.
