I shared their mortality, their fragility, and their changeability, witnessing time dissolve them. As Susan Sontag once said, all photographs were Memento Mori. But that wasn't the only concept that preoccupied me. During the excavation of the Kaniya Bekan Necropolis, where I participated as an archaeological photographer, dozens of trapanned skulls were unearthed. These skulls date back approximately 3,000 years. The amorphous bony shell housed the gelatinous organ that shaped the history of an entire world. And today, humanity's fate is being shaped in the folds of its own brain.
