Being Here

  • Photographer
    Oyvind Hjelmen

Being Here is an invitation to an intimate exploration of memory and perception. It aims to show a sensitive and introspective world through a scenography that plays with scale and proximity. The project encourages slow, careful contemplation, where each image unfolds with the quiet rhythm of a visual diary. The images, imbued with a quiet melancholy, capture suspended moments, fleeting traces of time passing—remnants hovering at the edge of visibility. The work explores the persistence of memory and the fragility of the present, striking a balance between what remains and what fades away.

Øyvind Hjelmen lives and works on the island of Stord, off the west-coast of Norway. He is a fine art photographer specializing in hand-printed black and white images, hand bound artists books and portfolios, and larger format unique photograms. He holds a BA in modern art and aesthetics from the University of Bergen. Working with photography for more than 25 years, his works have been exhibited in 14 countries. Among the collections that hold his works are The Museum of Fine Art in Houston, USA. He has also published five books, among them two monographs.
