The oud maker Sami Afifi works at his workshop located at street level in Downtown Cairo. He is considered one of the most skilled oud manufacturers in Egypt whose craft comes from a family tradition of over 100 years. While visiting him, he was kind enough to let me photograph him as he was working assembling the resonance box and the soundboard of one of the ouds he was working on at that moment. The street was recently cleaned, a puddle of water in front of the workshop caught his reflection creating an aesthetic atmosphere of a singular craftsman at work.
