Facing Enya-Hannah

  • Photographer
    David Degelin

The series portrays graphic artist Enya-Hannah Elliot during the creation of her art. The close-up approach provides a close, intimate insight into her creative mindset, emotions, and focus. The series was shot during the timespan of an entire day, to allow the artist to get into her creative focus, without noticing the camera. The result provides a unique and vulnerable view of Enya-Hannah as she indulges in her art. The use of a transparent canvas provides a view of the artist from the artwork's perspective.

I'm a photographer with a focus on portrait, street, and fine-art photography, and photography is my way of dealing with the world, people, stories, places, experiences. Photography is a therapeutic activity for me in a way, a survival strategy. I use light and shadow to capture what I feel, rather than what I see, and what I feel always takes precedence over what I see in what I do. I'm intrigued by the beauty of solitude, of people and places and in my work, this theme plays a dominant role.
