In the spring of each year in Texas, several towns hold events they call "Rattlesnake Roundups" in which venomous rattlesnakes are hunted, captured, and displayed for people to see in a carnival-like atmosphere. One such roundup in Sweetwater, Texas has garnered much attention from tourists, animal rights advocates, and the press, but smaller festivals in out of the way places such as Walnut Springs, Texas (population 815) attract only locals and barely hang on financially.
