We went on a bushwalk on a late summer’s evening in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, NSW Australia and hit the America Bay Trail. When we reached the clifftop, I got way more than I bargained for when the photographic stars aligned for one of those all too rare moments… 1. Youngest son climbs on rock. 2. I walk behind rock and see his silhouette. Whoa! 3. I step back and notice his reflection in water. Double whoa!! 4. I stumble around for best position before he gets bored and jumps off rock. 5. I pray I didn’t leave the lens cap on. 6. Phew…
Australia is a landscape unique in its savagery and spectacle. Being UK born, I first arrived in Perth and that first experience saw me in the Nambung National Park whilst using a big stick to fend off brown snakes. I was the art director on a commercial photography shoot – keeping one eye on the back of the camera, the other firmly on the red dirt around the tripod. That juxtaposition, the incredibly beautiful landscape combined with the incredibly scary natural critters, has fascinated me ever since.
