I took this photograph in 2021, with a film camera at an abandoned industry complex called "Hyeopdong Saneopdanji" which was built during 1960s, located in Namyangju, South Korea. It was closed up because of environmental pollution in 2000s. There also remains some unsolved issues including worker rights. Nowadays this place is only known as the filming location of K-pop M/Vs and K-dramas paradoxically. The exhaust pipe conveys the termination of the factory building's life. The abandoned pipe is just like a part of respiratory organs which had been cut off.
My name is Shanzhe Zhang, a Chinese currently living in Seoul, South Korea. I hold a Master Degree in Film & Broadcasting Studies. I shoot in film with my Mamiya 645m and Contax IIIa.
