The Oakland Bay Bridge photographed from Alcatraz Island. At this time of year, in the mornings when the light is just right the Bay Bridge looks like it is floating in the air - the sky and water blend together. A really lovely and ethereal scene. This is a six-minute exposure.
Belgian-born photographer Olivier Desmet hopes to convey the notion of Mono no Aware (a Japanese concept used to describe the beautiful transience of all things) through his black & white urban and landscape images. His photography has been published in the Financial Times, Metropolis Japan, Tokyo Weekender Magazine, The Michelin Guide, and the acclaimed literary quarterly The Southern Review. Olivier is currently working on his third book “Marine Layer”, a collection of meditative photographs of nature and still life in the San Francisco Bay area.
