I am influenced by the history of flower painting, and questions of femininity and domesticity. I want to re-look at the traditionally feminine and domestic based practices associated with women, and use my female gaze to embrace the complex relationship between femininity and domestic space. Revealing it to be constrictive and imprisoning characterised by obsession and menace. I carefully construct still life scenes in my home: flowers are draped, sewn, tied, bound and suspended into position. This controlled method is integral to the resultant picture, I want to dominate the domestic space.
