The festival of Night Procession of the Earth God (Tu Ti Kung) originated from a custom of the Neihu area, Taipei, Taiwan. During the Ching Dynasty era in China, local residents would express their respect to the Earth God by throwing firecrackers to the sedan chair of the Earth God during the procession on the night of the Lantern Festival, and people believed that the more firecrackers that were set off, the more wealth they would get.
