Blackwater diving is a different kind of night dive where you go several miles off shore and drift in the darkness. A myriad of planktonic and bizarre creatures migrate upward from the depths after dark, making each dive a completely different experience. Since the BWs became frequent, several new species have been classified. This is a juvenile wonderpus (Wonderpus photogenicus) seen during a Blackwater dive in Anilao (Philippines). During this pelagic phase, they have a translucent to transparent body with bands.
