Xinjiang, China: Makeover of Kashgar

The old town of Kashgar, in Xinjiang, China, recently had a major makeover. A former stop on the ancient Silk Road, its 2000-year history & architecture underwent an extreme “dressing up” (per the signs I saw explaining what was transpiring). This is part of Xi Jinping’s plans for significant alterations to the Uyghur Autonomous Region under the One Belt, One Road Initiative.
