In this image, I focus on the push-pull relationship between need and want. The subject is portrayed at a distance from the viewer, obscured in their room. This leads the viewer to gaze into the space and position of the subject through the mirror. While the viewer believes the image is about the subject, it's also about what ideas and feelings they project onto the figure in the image to have. The subject is grasping their body showing vulnerability and restraint, unaware of the viewers gaze, yet in need of something. Thus this mirror is a reflection of the viewer and window to the subject.

Kimari Hazward b. 1995 Brooklyn, NY My name is Kimari Hazward and I am a self-taught photographer based in Brooklyn, NY. I am interested in the ways that we use memories of both objects and humans to process significant lived experiences. I primarily work within homes and familial spaces of friends and family, allowing the subject to naturally exist in their own space, and position the objects around them as they see fit. This dynamic between the positioning of the subject and their space informs the viewer on how the subject wants to be seen, and how they see themselves.
