"Too Hard to Return" is a photography project based in Tianhui Town, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. This small town has long been in a state of halted demolition, leading to dramatic changes in its urban form, yet it remains frozen in this transformation. Amidst a landscape of half-original structures and half-ruins, the local residents have maintained a delicate balance in their daily lives. The project explores the changes in human settlements, the living conditions and mental states of the residents, as well as the themes of physical presence and the passage of memory.
