Since 1900 the steel industry has played a vital role in the industrial revolution. How such industry has evolved since? Tata Steel Netherlands has ambitious plans of reducing by 40% its CO2 emissions by 2030, from 12.5M tonnes to 7.5M tonnes a year. The strategies include capturing CO2 from its furnaces and storing it in empty North Sea gas fields or using by-product gases to produce 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen a year. Does only humanity now turn its interested gaze to such companies? Or also extraterrestrial populations, perhaps interested in the fate of human civilisation on Planet Earth?
