Whether in designing or photographing, my mind seeks the right elements that can accurately convey my thoughts. Most of the time, it fails in its final expression. But I have time and again considered that failure important. So Says Apsley Cherry-Garrard: “Do things slowly, always slowly…and every now and then the question, Shall we go on? and the answer Yes.” For me, this affirmative is the crux of my artistic process as I continually seek to match the vision to the expression. I know that both the artist and the artisan feel the burden of time weighing on their instrument of creation. Are we there yet? The images and designs I consider completed ask this question every time I look at them. And my reply is always this: “we might not be there yet, but from the position we stand, we are in a better place to fail better—whence beauty is born—in this never-ending process of artistic creation.”
