The title of this book refers to the line inscribed on the Statue of Liberty, also known as the Mother of Exiles, from the sonnet written by Emma Lazarus in 1883. It's an important part of the national identity crisis going on in the US. Coney Island, the amusement park and playground for immigrants for a century has been photographed by some of the greatest photographers- but this is unique in that it from a female point of view.
