Global warming and its consequences threaten indigenous peoples worldwide. Many of the semi-nomads north of Mount Kenya, such as the Samburu, have suffered very high livestock losses in recent years due to droughts. For this reason, they are breaking with one of their oldest traditions: Instead of relying on their large herds of cows, they now rely on camels, because their milk and meat significantly improve the people's nutritional basis in the increasingly dry climate. Recently, the camel population in the Isiolo region has literally exploded, growing from 100 to 150,000 animals in 20 years.
