Braids are a means of expression symbolizing survival for me. Cornrows is an ongoing photographic essay that tackles the subject of African braids. This series offers a contemporary reading of the practice that dates back to prehistoric times. During Antiquity, the people of Ancient Egypt and the Nok Civilization, brought this capillary practice to the rank of works of art. Inspired by my childhood, I pose through the portrait, a human and aesthetic look at the evolution and then the social acceptance of this cultural heritage.
