I wanted to shoot The Shard but in a more abstract way than many of the traditional 'architecture' shots. My goal was to make the structure more abstract and bring it within its surroundings in a more 'macro' way. To achieve this, I positioned myself on the ground in front of the entrance to 1 London Bridge using the glass and steel structure of that building to frame the glass and steel structure of The Shard.

I have been capturing images for over 40 years having started with a 110 instamatic in the 1970s and graduating to 35mm in the 1980s. I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively and have always taken pictures as I went using everything from instant film to 35mm to 120mm to digital. In a society where camera phones are ubiquitous and the internet bombards us with images, I do my best to capture the spaces in between what everyone else sees. I still make extensive use of my film cameras, alongside digital cameras, focusing on using the best equipment to capture a specific moment.
