  • Prize
    Gold in Fine Art/Collage

    DAVID HIGGINS

A montage of trees silhouetted against the full moon on the 15th November 2016, one day after the supermoon, the day the moon made its closest approach since 1948. Taken at Thorpe Perrow Arboretum, near Bedale in North Yorkshire.

I’m an ecologist and conservation worker specialising in river catchments and terrestrial conservation with a passion for marine life. I’m also a keen wildlife photographer with an appetite for travel and visiting protected areas. Within this I have a particularly love visiting rivers, forests and heading out to sea. My favourite woodland is Hackfall Woods near Masham in North Yorkshire, which has the River Ure running through it. I visit there as often as I can when I’m back in the UK.
