Poltergeist is a self portrait I created in order to cleanse the demons of my past. I was in an abusive relationship with another man who took my love for granted, he used his anger as a way to control and manipulate me. The void that he left caused years of pain and confusion. In the image I am crying, grasping on to the pounamu (greenstone) pendant he carved for me. I am seeking protection in a circle of salt to ward off my inner demons on the outside of frame, the use of white sage also reinforces this idea of protection from myself. This portrait helped me to release the pain I felt.
