In the Philippines, children are sold into domestic servitude and the cybersex trade by human traffickers, who deceive them into believing that they will have a better life. They believe they are leaving their impoverished life for an opportunity to earn money, but instead become entangled in a nightmare. "A Path Toward Healing" aims to advocate for and alongside these survivors, amplifying their voices and documenting their healing— not just because it provides insight into their daily struggles, but also because they need to feel acknowledged in a society that stigmatizes them.

Photographer Matilde Simas uses the capacity of photography to generate social change and empower storytelling. Her work focuses on issues of dignity and human rights around the world, illuminating the enduring strength of victims, survivors, and people affected by trauma. In her work, she actively seeks to allow her subjects’ agency — a way to impact the story and reclaim truth. In 2017, Matilde founded Capture Humanity, an organization focused on brining awareness to and prevent human trafficking.
