For the Kyrgyz, living in Pamir, Afghanistan, life is as difficult for them as the weather. The region lacks proper healthcare facilities with no medicine supply for months. Children are conceived with no medical help which results in a very high death rate of infants. High blood pressure, chronic knee pain, lung and kidney problems are common for the elderly. Hence, they seek opium as a resort for pain relief. Girls are strictly not allowed to study in schools and are married off at young ages. Equality seems to be something of a distant dream.
