They dreamt of the sea and independence. These two hopes were the trigger for the civil war that devastated the Tigray region, in northern Ethiopia, between November 3, 2020, and November 3, 2022. It is an extremely poor region, scarce in resources, and inhabited by a proud and dignified people. Fear, sacrifice, suffering, hunger, and death—what has it all led to? The past has been erased, and so has the future.Everything "sleeps." Life reduced to a still image. Dreams are moments of peace, until the dawn of a new day, when the rooster's crow demands an inevitable return to return to reality.

Carolina Paltrinieri is a photographer born in Finale Emilia (Modena) in 1989. She has attended training courses with Stanley Greene, Massimo Mastrolillo, Jodi Bieber, Lina Pallotta and a MasterClass with Paolo Marchetti. Over time, she has developed an authorial style that has won her numerous awards in important national and international competitions. In order to fully convey the feelings of the photographed subjects and their stories, she likes to approach their private lives slowly, knocking cautiously on their feelings.
