Beijing has a permanent population of more than 20 million, which is larger than the population of most countries in the world. More than one-third of the population is a floating population. These people are called Beijing drifter. Today, more and more Beijing drifter feel lonely in such a huge city. They work hard in the city during the day and return to loneliness at night. Some of them are happy, some are drunk, some are confused, some are helpless, some are still looking for jobs, some are still looking for a place to live, for dreams, for children, for the past, and for the future.

Chris Yan, photographer, designer, was born in Beijing, China in 1981. After graduating from Communication University of China with a degree in art and design, he started working for a number of international advertising agencies. In 2013 he founded his own company, focusing on commercial design and art creation, and began photography. He mainly explores humanities and street photography. For the past ten years, he has been photographing in different countries and currently he lives and works in Beijing.
