Tongjiao Buddhist Temple is the only convent in the city of Beijing, China, with a history of 500 years old. It's served as a practice center for Bhikkhuni. It’s said it houses a copy of Japan's Taisho Tripitaka. There were over 70 nuns in the 1960s. During China’s Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), Red Guards ruined the temple. Buddhist statues and scriptures were destroyed. It was built among traditional alleys, but now it is buried by tall buildings because of city development. Believers from local residence come to pray for health, happiness, luck, inner peace and seek their past time.
