Sri Lanka is a tourist paradise that for decades has been marked by a brutal conflict between the Sinhalese and the Tamils. This fratricidal war has not received much media coverage and is little talked about, but has turned Sri Lanka into a country marked by blood and suffering. It is a war that has left a wounded nation, divided families, maimed people, and although it has officially ended, for many islanders it continues. This is the story of Tamil women warriors, both those who fought on the frontline and those who fought off it – rejected, marginalised by the state and the system.
