Buddha In Snowfall

This 20-ton Buddha sits at the entrance to Koshoji Temple, a 10-minute walk from where I live in Nagoya, Japan. I spend a lot of time in this urban oasis--walking, meditating, riding bikes with my sons, and of course, photographing. I had this picture in mind for awhile, and was waiting for the right conditions. I've photographed this Buddha from a hundred different angles, but this one, as the Buddha meditates serenely in the falling snow, really captures the essence, for me, of this place, and of the Buddhist mindset--calm amidst chaos.
