Chinese opera has survived modernisation and continues to be performed in many parts on our little island, Singapore. As one of the few surviving traditional Chinese (Teochew) performing arts, it is commonly refers to as Chinese street opera. Their continuation is very much dependant on efforts of donations and social supports from various communities and associations in order to preserve and promote it as part of Singapore’s cultural heritage. These images portrayed the joys and the pain of these beautiful and talented artisans that has brought wonderful memories to many a generations.
