In September 2016, the super typhoon called Meranti hit the South of Taiwan. The wind and the waves were so strong that four fishing boats were overturned at Sizihwan, in Kaohsiung. Oil was leaking from one of those boats, a catastrophe for the place which is a touristic scenic area. The Municipality deployed oil booms and workers with absorbent cotton to contain the spill and soak up oil from the shore. But more than 10 tonnes of the diesel oil had spilled and threatened the coastal ecosystem.
