A leader misallocates – a country starves

A composition that pointedly and ironically demonstrates the two biggest wastes of money in a country that is suffering from bitter poverty – demonstration of military power and megalomaniac architecture of no tangible use. North Korea has one of the largest armies in the world but the majority of its people still relying on food aid. Pyongyang also features one of the largest unfinished buildings in the world – the pyramid-shaped Ryugyong-Hotel, started in 1987 but still remaining unopened.
