Before the Japanese rule over Taiwan, members of the Atayal tribe got tattoos on their faces as a sign of belonging to the tribe. They were known as the head hunters of Taiwan. In 2017 I was able to find the last two women who have those tattoos. The younger one, aged 102, was living with her family in the central part of the island. The other one, aged 108, was in a nursing home. Unfortunately Kainu - woman from the photo, died this year on 16.01. It was an honor to meet her.
