The master painters were and are to this day unmatched when it comes to the art of portraiture. Their ability to have a conversation with their audience through their paintings is what Justine also aims to capture in her works with the ultimate objective to create a sense of intimacy between you and the depicted subject. It is in honour of these master painters that this series came to fruition. Therefor Justine delved into the vast collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in search of works to use as inspiration for this series and create a modern interpretation of these selected works. Since Justine’s works are often backed by a story of social importance, it was very essential for her to search for works that have a relevancy in today’s zeitgeist.
