TOKYO-2016

We are only here for a blink of an eye

I shot this large panoramic-photomontage during the total solar eclipse on March 20, 2015 outside the world's northernmost city of Longyearbyen in Spitzbergen. The image is composed of more than 600 individual shots, which I manually put together. I met of group of over Japanese eclipse chasers who flew in for this event. I captured their anticipation for the big moment with one camera and then the solar eclipse itself with another camera. The combined image does not deserve a 1000 pixel resolution, however, I think it brings across the sense of a meeting between dedicated people, who only visit this earth for a blick of an eye and their celestial counterparts. My image is faithful to art work in the middle ages, where the focus of attention lies behind the protagonists backs and not in front as a POV.
