Italy is out

What does it mean to be an Italian abroad today? What role does the Italian culture abroad play? The purpose of this photographic essay is to invite the exploration of the common background elements leading Italians to migrate, but also to explore the specific characteristics of migration contexts across time and space from an historical and social perspective. The intent of the project is to collect stories of life involving Italian communities and individuals belonging to different generations. This approach would incentivize a reflection about the idea of ‘italianita' perhaps redundant and certainly over determined by stereotypes. The final work is developed through a series of portraits of Italians abroad and their personal objects which tell the story of the family and the connections with the Italian culture.
